This major renovation/addition was featured on HGTV and won multiple design awards.
The house dates to 1930's Set on a hill and has a basement which is rare Baton Rouge, La. The original 1,800 square feet of the home was increased to 5,200sf. The goal of the renovation was to blend the new additions with the character of the 1930's home so you could not tell which was old or new.
The new doors and trim casings where custom made to match the existing. The old phone niche remained at the bottom of the stairs keeping the character of the home.
Materials where reused/repurposed where they could be. The livings room mahogany wall panel was used for flooring on another project and the mahogany bookcases were relocated upstairs in the bedroom and study.
The house was designed to take advantage of the landscape and views. The kitchen addition above the garage overlooked the property like being in a tree house. All rooms had views to the exterior lending natural light and ambience.
Additions included a long galley designed foyer added to the front of the home connecting the original kitchen/bedroom to the new addition of a kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and staircase to the new basement garage.
The master suite was designed where the existing kitchen and bedroom was located. A screen in porch off the existing kitchen became the Master bathroom and closet. The bathroom off the bedroom was converted to a half bath.
The existing living room facing the front of the home was gutted. The roof and exterior walls were modified/removed to add the foyer to the front and addition to the back of the living room.
The front exterior structure with the 2 windows became two large arch ways into the new living room off the foyer. The fireplace /chimney structure remained and the existing exterior brick painted.
The second floor addition over the new living room included a family room, jack and Jill bath and large bedroom. The existing second floor bedrooms and bathroom were renovated.
The basement was renovated to a home office and the addition of the garage incorporated a hall to side door entry for easy access to the office and garage.
