We worked with Shelley for a complete gut and renovation of a single-story home constructed in 1983. In all, we remodeled two bathrooms, a kitchen, and ripped out tile and installed new flooring. The renovation included a lot of plumbing footprint changes, removal of a load-bearing wall, and installation of a beam. By the end of the project, we turned a dark and dreary 80’s house into a light and bright, transitional Acadian-style home. We bought the home in September 2020, began renovations in October 2020, and completed all major work by the end of April 2021 -- this renovation took 7 months. Shelley met with us while we were in the inspection period in August 2020 and had initial plans and drawings for the redesign to us within 2-3 weeks. We had estimates from most contractors in another 2-3 weeks and began the demo in mid-October. Shelley guided us through the whole process, from finalizing the design, selecting materials, purchasing appliances, and working with vendors. It was so easy to get paralyzed by all the choices and options available to us, so we trusted her to guide us in the right direction & eliminate choices that wouldn’t have worked for us. This was a complete house remodel. She had a comprehensive plan that was incredibly thorough including adding windows, remodeling kitchen, bathrooms, living room, pool area and more. Our house was initially built as a spec house by a builder with little imagination and less understanding of designing for livability, so it needed more than just new paint colors. Shelley’s interior design ability is amazing. She repositioned walls, inserted built in cabinets, turned dead unusable space to creative closets and storage niches. She closed off some out of position doors, opened rooms to nature by adding beautiful windows which gave us gorgeous views and seemed to expand room size. We went from walled off tight spaces to open, airy, flowing spaces suitable for multiple uses, yet she expertly carved out some more intimate areas in the process. The bathroom turnaround was beyond description. She opened an old dingy shower to a modern glorious wonder. She replaced big store utilitarian cabinets with user friendly custom designer cabinets with knock-out looks and much improved utility of space – turning ugly and inefficient use of space to beautiful and fun to use. Our neighbors could not believe the transition. Speaking of new paint colors, she did that too and it made an incredible difference in concert with the redesign work. Next, she introduced furniture that allowed us to enjoy the beauty of our new home in comfort and with an open invitation to visitors to equally enjoy. While we had seen before and after photos of some of her prior work, we did not think it was possible to turn our ugly duckling into the swan we desired but could not afford. She accomplished this all under budget delivering a tremendous enhancement in the value; in fact, the value enhancement significantly exceeded the expense. So, we gained in value, beauty and comfort. Shelley is really great at getting spaces to match. We have a old traditional house that has some vintage aspects to it and she helped us get our colors together so that we didn't brought new young life into the space.
